EDIT: PREVIEW THE ISSUE BELOW!! bit.ly/celRw3------------------------------------ Remember what I said about not getting the variant cover? Yeah, apparently I lied. www.dccomics.com/dcu/comics/?cm=12870Well, hello Wally's Misshapen Head! You know what would have been awesome? Three variants, one with Max, Bart, and Irey, another with Wally, Jesse and Jay, and... that other one that we're actually getting.

Wally's mask looks a bit weird, but I like it overall.

I get the feeling this series is going to be the butt of lateness jokes for years to come No doubt. I can already hear some of them... "Man, this Outsiders book is pulling a Flash:Rebirth on us!" "Hey, at least these delays aren't as bad as Flash: Rebirth" ;D Yeah, this is going to be the prime example for late comics.

My slightly spoiler filled thoughts:
Thought it was okay. It wrapped the story pretty fast. The art was great, definitely not worth the wait but still pretty good. I hated, absolutely hated, seeing Wally behind Barry EVERY time they ran. Even when Barry is on his last legs, he's still ahead of the fresh legged Wally. Its beyond promo for Barry and into "Suck it Wally" territory. At least that is how it comes off. We get to see Geoff plant small seeds for the ongoing series as well. Hopefully things won't end up as predictable as they seem.

This final issue was disappointing. Honestly, the pacing is the only real problem I have with this series, both with the story and the release dates. This final issue, and much of the series, just had no weight. No sense of urgency or speed. For the first three issues, nothing was getting done, and for what? To reveal the villain at the same time as Sinestro was in GL:R? When it needed to run, it meandered. When it needed to slow down and breath (or punch) it breezed right past. As a reparation of the Flash status quo, it actually felt more like an Allen Family Rebirth at times (which I like), but every character got their moment in the spotlight. Taken with Blackest Night, I find that aspect even stronger (besides Boomer's death). The repairing of Bart's character and Irey's taking of the Impulse identity was pretty much all I got the book for, but the other parts were fun too. EDIT My favorite bit in the entire series. Bart's just, like, "okay... weird..."

I agree. Long wait for nothing. Mostly I'm dissapointed that Barry's parents were retroactively offed and Barry, as a character, remains unchanged. Barry was unique in that he had a good childhood and always knew right from wrong, without the need for a traumatic event like Batman or Superman. Even GL had Abin Sur die in his origin story. Too bad that Johns was desperate for any type of change for his new story.

Yeah, I'm still pissed about Barry's parents, and the various changes this makes to established continuity (what's the status of the story with the Top possessing his dad?)
Also, his poor dad never gets his name officially cleared when Barry closes the file on his mom's case. Poor old Henry.

I was underwhelmed. I liked a lot of the little moments, but I really wish I'd gotten to read 6 issues of real story-for-the-sake-of- story rather than 6 issues getting from point A to point B on an editorial decree. And I wish the book had convinced me that I'd want to read the new series. Shouldn't that have been its primary goal? At least I finally felt like I was reading a book with Barry Allen in it, and not some guy who has the same name and haircut. Full review at Speed Force. I hated, absolutely hated, seeing Wally behind Barry EVERY time they ran. Even when Barry is on his last legs, he's still ahead of the fresh legged Wally. Its beyond promo for Barry and into "Suck it Wally" territory. I was wondering whether anyone else had noticed that, but I didn't want to bring it up. I sound bitter enough already. Yeah, I'm still pissed about Barry's parents, and the various changes this makes to established continuity (what's the status of the story with the Top possessing his dad?) Also, his poor dad never gets his name officially cleared when Barry closes the file on his mom's case. Poor old Henry. I'd be okay with them erasing the original Top-possessing-Henry story...if they hadn't made so much else depend on it, and recently. What's the status of the Rogues' on-again-off-again attempts at reform, if we're to believe it all stems from Barry having Zatanna mindwipe the Top, if we're to believe that that stems from the time the Top possessed Barry's father? Not to mention the fact that the tragic backstory of parental death is just plain cliche.
