Its killing me guys. I can't believe he did that..Its so unnecessary. It was like Geoff thinks that a parents death is more relatable to everyone than a happy home. The tragic hero origin now becomes glaringly apparent. Coupled with the recent death of Pa Kent, I have to wonder if Geoff Johns actually agrees with Hunter Zolomon. Of course, as the world's most diehard Top fan, I'm left wondering what's happened to the Top-possesses-Henry storyline, because I really liked it. I'm REALLY hoping that flashback is not as it seems... And Geoff Johns just used that story a couple of years ago, too! On a related note, I've finished my full review of the issue. Which, now that I look at it, has a huge chunk focused on this one sequence.

Coupled with the recent death of Pa Kent, I have to wonder if Geoff Johns actually agrees with Hunter Zolomon. Heh. Well, he likes tragic backgrounds, at least. And evil dads seem to figure prominently (Cold's dad too). Of course, as the world's most diehard Top fan, I'm left wondering what's happened to the Top-possesses-Henry storyline, because I really liked it. I'm REALLY hoping that flashback is not as it seems... And Geoff Johns just used that story a couple of years ago, too! Yeah, that had occurred to me. Of course, he put small retcons in here and there into that too. On a related note, I've finished my full review of the issue. Which, now that I look at it, has a huge chunk focused on this one sequence. I'll have to check it out...I'll be reviewing the issue for a blog too. Haven't decided what to write yet, though.

Interesting. It'd be one thing if Johns said to be patient, but if EVS is saying it too, I'll look forward to seeing where this retcon goes...

Ethan went out of his way to respond. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, though with Geoff's resume of retcons I can't say that I'm still skeptical.

The retcon is only a tool - or change of history by a time travler to establish a compelling reason for Barry to value time. Justifying the retcon isn't the issue - completely changing the nature of the character is the issue. Now Barry can never do enough. Wally fans think they get Barry and Barry fans get Wally from a few years ago. DC can do what they want with their characters but I will feel less connected to this new character they're calling Barry.

I just read the issue and I have to say, it had some faults, it's honestly been better than any Flash story in the last like 2 1/2 years(not including Rogues Revenge which was top notch) in my opinion. I loved how we got to see everyone reacting to Barry being back and all that. Fun stuff to see.
Sorry if I'm forgetting but what was Alchemy talking about when he said "her"? I too felt Bart's attitude was a bit off but I mean it's understandable considering all of the crap he's been through. And I think it's funny how he too wasn't very proud of his time as Flash lol. Love how Geoff puts in his own feelings like that.
I don't mind that Barry isn't acting like the "perfect Flash" people think he should but honestly he's a human being. He just came back from the dead and he's got to be a little on edge of not wanting to "waste" any time. I can't wait to see how he rediscovers himself throughout the mini.
The retcon bugged me a bit but it's pretty clear that Barry's father did not commit the murder. I loved seeing Savitar albeit briefly and Barry's reactions going through the villains section of the museum was funny. The Black Flash being dead though is interesting. Perhaps the speed force is so strained by Barry being free that the Black Flash just dropped dead(considering he's the thing that pretty much symobolizes the speed force coming to take you.)
Overall I really liked the issue and would give it 4 stars. A new era that I hope is a lot of fun.

I agree with everyones overall thoughts about this issue. I'll be doing a review soon for my podcast. Great first issue overall... but there's one thing nobody really talked about - the eight page Power Girl story! I was really pissed when I saw EIGHT pages of freakin' Power Girl in a Flash book! WTH??? I paid $3.99 (an extra dollar) for 8 pages of Power Girl? Is DC going to raise their prices to $3.99 and then use those extra pages just to promote their other books? That really pisses me off!!! Why couldn't we get an 8-page Wally story? Or at least something FLASH related! Sorry to rant, but this is nothing more than a marketing ploy to raise prices while promoting other books I'm not interested in!!!!

Well, the Power Girl story(which I still haven't read yet) was featured throughout this weeks books so don't take it personal. lol
Also the co-features and mini events are the only DC books that will feature $3.99 price tags.

Good to see them putting Ethan's art to good use, though I don't like that cover. Let's hope the sales continue once the ongoing starts.

Black Flash dropped dead because quite frankly, he's tired of taking speedsters to their final resting place if they insist on coming back.

Black Flash dropped dead because quite frankly, he's tired of taking speedsters to their final resting place if they insist on coming back. LOL! So true. I can see it now. (Black Flash runs through cornfield. Cell phone rings) BF: Hello? Oh hey, speed force. What? Barry Allen's alive and kicking!? But I thought for sure him of all people was never going to come back! Damn it! You know what? Screw this! I'm sick of dragging speedster's asses into the grave if they're only going to keep coming back! Get someone else to be your death cause I'm through! Through I tell ya! (Burns into a crisp and collapses onto ground)

Just noticed a slight coloring error during my fourth read through lol. Barry's shirt in that first time you see him is green but when Hal shows up it turns red...OOPS!

i still havnt read this(nearest comic shop is a few hours flight away) but i have them(the latest GL books aswell) on order, but due to a cock up, still need to pay for them via phone(i know i know). But i can't wait to read it. Even thought alot of people arn't overaly happy with some of the retcons(myself included, esp since i loved how the flashes just were good ppl who helped everyone because it was the right thing to do) But at least people are tlaking about the flash again.

LOTS of people. And rightfully so, this is a big deal and while I'm still not happy with Barry's return, I am still happy to see The Flash being a large focus for everyone. Just hope it continues.
