IN STORES NOW! The Flash #1 Cover by Francis Manapul has been revealed! And not only that, it will feature the DCU status quo banner "BRIGHTEST DAY" when it launches. Here's what Senior VP/Executive Editor Dan DiDio said of the Flash and Brightest Day: AS: In meetings I’ve heard BRIGHTEST DAY referred to, offhand, as DCU: REBIRTH. Being the sleuth I am, this leads me to believe it’s more than just a concentrated series, right? DD: Definitely. BRIGHTEST DAY isn’t just a single book. Like BLACKEST NIGHT, it’s an event that happens across the entire DC Universe, affecting a number of titles. Following BRIGHTEST DAY #0, we’ll be bannering a number of new and ongoing series with BRIGHTEST DAY, which will let readers know these books are key to the entire BD story. AS: Keeping my detective hat on, since Geoff is writing BRIGHTEST DAY and we announced he’d be writing a new FLASH ongoing coming right around the same time… DD: Correct. We’ll be launching the new FLASH ongoing series, by Geoff and Francis Manapul in April with a BRIGHTEST DAY banner, and there will be several more titles utilizing it come May and June. With this book, Geoff and Francis are really bringing Barry Allen back into the spotlight and cementing him as the premiere Flash in the DCU in his own monthly. It’s no secret that I’ve been waiting a long time to se this. I’ve always been a huge Barry fan, and I can say that Geoff and Francis are reinvigorating him as a character in much the same way Geoff did with Hal Jordan. Should be fun. AS: You mentioned other titles? DD: Yup.

I don't really like Didio seems to really not want any of the other Flashes around. First we find out that the Kid Flash series and Wally co-feature are now gone, and now he's saying that he wants to stress that Barry is the "premiere" Flash. Excuse my French but this is bullshit. Still looking forward to the ongoing of course but this ticks me off. ;D

Thought it was a solid issue. Though I must admit that I have now become disgusted with all splash pages that do not feature word balloons. Thanks Geoff! Definitely a solid read though, as we see what Barry's life will be like. Its an introduction to the life of The Flash. Barry Allen comes off as a timid man whenever out of his costume, but I like that.
I don't like that we didn't get much characterization out of Iris...aside from her enjoying coffee and fully expects her husband to bend the law for her. Would have liked to gotten a joke out of The Trickster as well, or maybe a boxing glove that springs out? Its the little things that bother you after you finish.
Art was really well done. Francis Manapul is simply great. HOWEVER, I must admit that in the most action oriented scene, The Flash did not look so great(he takes apart a falling car and saves Trickster). I'm prone to believe that his artwork on Adventure Comics was a better than this, but not drastically better. The tone of that book just lent itself to Manapul's style.
And I'm sorry, but I realllllllllllllllly hope I never have to hear about Nora Allen again. Because her death just pisses me off.
FLASHPOINT! Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert. The author of my favorite story and my favorite artist one on project! I wish I was more excited, but I am honestly hoping aboard that "Event Fatigue" train. Now technically there's nothing in the two page ad that says specifically that FLASHPOINT will be an event, but knowing Geoff "loves events", I don't think I'm far off by being worried. Why couldn't we get through...I don't know, a SINGLE ISSUE without a tease to some grand event? Ugh.
Giving this issue 4*. I can't knock it because it teased something I didn't like after the story was told. Geoff laid out a simple setup story that was filled with a lot of information for new readers. Normally, when a character speaks to another like they need a review packet, I get upset...but I'll forgive it this time because its Barry Allen. Plus...FUTURE ROGUES! They look great. Just fucking great.

Liked the issue though I agree, we didn't really need a tease at something big coming for Flash. I find it funny that the Rogues saying "we break glass" at the end of Rebirth was actually revealed to be literal here. Funny. Yeah the future Rogues looked really nice and I loved all the scenes with Barry settling in at the forensics lab.

Holy crap, this book was far more enjoyable than the last year's worth of Flash books from the same writer had led me to expect. It was fun, it focused on adventure instead of the grim and gritty, and I absolutely loved Francis Manapul's artwork. Seriously, if DC has released this last April instead of Flash: Rebirth, I would have been a lot happier about the book over the past year. It's a real triumph of showing over telling. From the future? Doubt it... ;D Hmm... now that you mention it, I can see it being staged by certain present-day characters based on an old contingency plan...

Yep... and if it is - this would be a good example of using character background to achieve a sense of continuity without unnecessary exposition dump. Time travel and murder were touchy subjects last time these guys were all in the same room.

Yeah, I hadn't even considered the possibility that the Rogues breaking Scudder's giant mirror could create these Renegades(I think that's what their called in the solicits) I really wish the Rogues all wore these guys' suits though. They're fantastic.
