Pretty sweet though I'm a bit curious about this whole Negative Speed Force...

Is it just me or has Rev Flash beefed up the neck since it was snapped? Look at the neck meat on that cover. :/

...are they canning the Professor Zoom name? They never call Thawne that in the preview. Just "Reverse-Flash". And it's bugging me how in some of those shots when Thawne's going wicked fast, his symbol turns purpleish, plus with his lightning bolt now reversed, he looks too much like Hunter! Besides the purple eye things and the belt that is...
Issue looks great though.

Im not confused by it. I think they don't want to call him Thawne since he's a villain, you wouldn't say Snart would you? But its probably killing Geoff not to say Zoom, since everyone else who doesn't know about Hunter will do so. I have my personal strike against saying it myself. He's Reverse Flash or Thawne.
As for the new buff Thawne, just look at Barry. He's never been super huge either. Its just Ethan's way of modernizing him. Lucky we didn't see Barry during the 90s.

Yeah but even in Rogue War it was Professor Zoom I could get used to just calling him Reverse Flash I guess. Professor Zoom always sounded weird. They should have just called him Zoom from the beginning lol.

'Professor Zoom' sounds more Silver Age-y, so that's probably where it originally came from Note that he says "Class is in session", which implies the professor name, but then again Hunter said stuff like that too. Everybody's more buff these days. I kind of liked how damn skinny Barry and the Rogues were long ago. Well, maybe not that skinny, but less like the steroid addicts they look like now.

Characters rarely refered to him as Reverse Flash during Barry's run - it was almost exclusively a cover narrative tool. I find it interesting that he is one of the few characters that has a civilian name and two interchangeable names for a single villain identity.
I was kidding about the neck... as if he wasn't sensative about that part of his body already. I think I was among the first on this board to be vocal about the steroid Barry - no biggie, just EVS's style - but it will probably mean that most future incarnations of Barry will be SchwartzenFlashes as well.
I noticed yet again with these pages the weakness EVS has drawing midsections... the cover of issues two and three bothered me with that... but I do really like how he tends to angle the scenes.

Picked up the book at lunch. I enjoyed it a lot more than last issue. It felt like the story finally picked up. Several genuinely tense moments with Prof. Zoom, and several "Hell, yeah!" moments. Fantastic splash pages for those! In particular, a certain double-page spread featuring three speedsters. Thawne's "negative speed force" makes more sense now that I've read the whole issue. That said, I'm disappointed in the revelation about the speed force. It just felt like a really forced way of establishing the current-Flash-is-always-the-best hierarchy. And it doesn't make sense in terms of what the speed force *does*. Looking forward to next issue and the charge of the Lightning Brigade! First impressions here, full review to come later tonight.

Oh
MY
GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wally was fn fantastic stepping up like a hero should. Thawne showing up at the West house was genius! Of course he would realize that Wally would race after Barry so why not fuck with his lightning rod so he can't! And Jai/Iris while played a little young than they are, it wasn't bad. Jai was great. lol And speaking of JAY...HE BITCHSLAPPED THAWNE! That was fucking great, I almost yelled in the library. I absolutely loved seeing the flashbacks while Wally raced through the Speed Force. I liked that Barry didn't really have an answer to Max not having a rod of his own.
I can't speak enough on how amazing the art was. Just the panels alone were great. I definitely expected Wally's costume to be revealed once he met up with Barry. Another great moment was seeing Superman in the background with his arms folded. You could really feel how embarrassed he must have been. This was my favorite issue of the week.

My thoughts exactly, West. Having Max back is great as well. There's actually nothing I didn't dislike about this issue. I love the concept of a reverse/negative Speed Force and Barry essentially being the Speed Force is awesome to me. I just hope that Irey keeps her unique powers, rather than becoming an all-out speedster. Jai, however, I think needs a power change. Not to conventional super speed, but something at least a little better than the superspeedster equivalent to steroids. Overall, I'm loving where this is going

GREAT ISSUE.
I think having Barry BE the Speed Force essententially or at least was the cause of it was pretty neat. And having Max back was great! I felt like in that one splash image of Max back with Bart behind him, I saw the old Bart. Not the tad mopey one we've seen so far in Rebirth. It was like the real Bart was back in action after vanishing suddenly after LO3W. I really liked how Wally had a big role in this issue as well. It was well deserved and I expected after Max came back, that Wally would appear with a new costume but he didn't. Oh well. Guess we just have to wait two more issues.
I don't recall them explaining how Thawne came back from the dead though, did they? They explained the reasoning for all of the Black Flash stuff but nothing on how Thawne actually returned.
The art was fantastic and some of those splashes were awesome! I loved the last page with all of the Flashes(plus Max) for the first time EVER all running together. That was a great ending and really got me pumped for next issue. Thawne's going to have quite a tough time taking all of them on at once.

I'm actually expecting Jai and Iris to be left powerless after touching Thawne...don't ask me why or how. lol
and I feel the same way Prime. It looked like the old Impulse Bart when Max returned. Maybe it was the hair, but it was pretty damn good feeling regardless.

Professor said something that heavily impied that he's going to come back during Blackest Night. Page 2, panel two in Flash Rebirth #4.
