I've heard time and time again that the serialized format is superior to the one off storylines... granted it provides far more space to allow a story to unfold but Jay Garrick's "day in the life" just goes to show that that it all comes back to the skill of the storyteller. Grant Morrisson gives humor, heroism, and even tugs at the heart strings with past-their-prime heroes AND villains.
Garrick got a great spotlight here!

You just had me pull it back out, and this is truely one of the top standalone issues in Wally's run... and its barely about Wally;)

Unfortunately, Done-in-One stories are often used as a stop-gap measure these days. I think it's good to take a break, show a different POV, highlight another member of the cast as Morrison has done here.
